Lapthorne Books

Exeter Working Papers in British Book Trade History; 11
Book trade references in the Lapthorne-Coffin correspondence 1683-1697
edited by Michael Treadwell and Ian Maxted.
Books mentioned in the letters

The works are listed alphabetically by author, or title for anonymous works. For reference purposes each work is assigned a letter followed by two numbers. The origin of the description varies, depending in part on the certainty with which the item has been identified, and the source of the description is normally indicated. Where a particular edition is named, there may be alternative candidates, and this fact may also be noted. Where a specific sale has been identified, the reference is given, and this links to the list of book sales. The price paid by Coffin is given where this can be ascertained . Where items have been identified in the 1801 sale catalogue of the Portledge Library this is also indicated and a link made to the catalogue listing. The Term Catalogue reference is given where appropriate and finally there are links to references in the letters themselves. These links are to the start of each letter, but the form of reference is given after the date to assist in the location of the reference within the letter. References to bills are normally to the date of the letter with which they are associated rather than to the date of the bill itself.
